Samrudha Surana

I'm an M.Sc. Economics student at the Gokhale Institute of Politics and Economics in Pune, India, and a Frédéric Bastiat Fellow with the Mercatus Center at George Mason University. Beginning in 2024, I'll be pursuing a PhD in Economics at George Mason, supported by a Mercatus Center PhD Fellowship and as a Graduate Fellow with the F. A. Hayek Program in Philosophy, Politics, and Economics.

My research interests revolve around political economy, economic history, and the philosophical underpinnings of a free society. I'm passionate about understanding the unseen effects of policies and how they shape the functioning of a free society.

Currently, I work with the Indian Political Economy team at the Mercatus Center, led by Dr. Shruti Rajagopalan. I am also a Prometheus Fellow with Students for Liberty.

Always up for discussing economics, and often found arguing that "veg" biryani does exist.

You can find my writings on Substack here. I also sell custom-designed t-shirts here. Buy some to create double thank you moments :).
